Lorrie Graham Photojournalist

'You cannot rewind, reshoot or rerun life, there are no second chances. If you miss the shot, you have missed the shot.' Lorrie Graham is one of Australia's most celebrated and original photojournalists. Lorrie Graham Photojournalist presents a selection of her favourite images from five decades of storytelling. This book is published to accompany the exhibition Lorrie Graham Photojournalist at the State Library of New South Wales, Sydney, running for 12 months from September 2026. AUTHOR: Lorrie Graham (b.1954) is one of Australia's most celebrated and original photojournalists. Graham began her career at a photographic lab while also shooting concerts for Australia's nascent Rolling Stone magazine. She became the first female photographic cadet at The Sydney Morning Herald in 1975, a cadetship only offered to women that year because it was declared International Women's Year by the United Nations. Graham became a trailblazer in a notoriously male-dominated profession, working for several major publications in Australia and the UK until embarking on a successful freelance career in 1989. Her image of Paul Keating brandishing a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses for the cover of Rolling Stone is one of her most iconic, and her work is held in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the National Portrait Gallery, the National Library, the Museum of Sydney and the State Library of NSW. She was inducted in The Australian Media Hall of Fame in 2017.
